چکیده

Single zircon dating of the Rampur metabasalts of the Larji–Kullu–Rampur window in the Lesser Himalayas yielded an evaporation age of 1800913 Ma. The zircon age is considerably younger than the previously published whole rock Sm–Nd age of 2510990 Ma, suggesting that the Sm–Nd age may be geologically meaningless and that the Sm–Nd whole rock array may have resulted from mixing. In the NW Himalaya, there is also evidence for extensive silicic melt generation in the Paleoproterozoic. Zircons from a metarhyodacite in the Larji–Kullu–Rampur window yielded an evaporation age of 1840916 Ma, which we interpret as the minimum age of magmatism. The Main Central Thrust granitic mylonites are interpreted as the basement of the Neoproterozoic Haimanta Group metasediments. Together with the granitic rocks from the Lesser Himalaya, they were derived from pre-existing continental crust prior to 1.84 Ga. The Nd depleted mantle model ages are in the range of 2.6–2.4 Ga, suggesting a contribution of Archean crust. A recycled Archean component is also documented by a 2.9 Ga domain in one of the zircons. © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Petrogenesis of Mid - Proterozoic granitic magmas : examples from 1 central and west Texas Diane

I Circa 1.1 Ga granitic magmatism in Texas was manifested as two compositional groups: (1) the 1.12 Ga Red Bluff granitic suite in west Texas; and (2) 1.12-1.07 Ga granites of the Llano uplift of central Texas. Both suites share some characteristics typical of 'anorogenic' granites (e.g. potassiumand iron-rich bulk compositions, Fe-rich hydrous silicates, emplacement conditions involving low ox...

Recurrent seismicity in Rajasthan State in the tectonically stable NW Indian Craton

Indian peninsular region comprises several Archean cratonic blocks (Dharwar, Bastar, Singhbhum, Aravalli – Bundelkhand), bordered by Proterozoic mobile belts. Therefore, this region is considered as tectonically stable and designated as the least vulnerable region to earthquake hazard except the still active Central Indian Tectonic Zone (CITZ). The latter is a major suture between southern and ...

Proterozoic metamorphism and cooling in the southern Lake Superior region, North America and its bearing on crustal evolution

Metamorphism along the southern margin of the Archean Superior Province has been historically attributed to the Penokean orogeny. A narrow corridor of amphibolite facies rocks north of the main suture does record 1.83–1.80 Ga metamorphic monazite U–Th–Pb ages that mark the culmination of arc accretion. However, subsequent widespread amphibolite facies metamorphism and associated magmatism is re...

Origin of Mesoproterozoic A-type granites in Laurentia: Hf isotope evidence

Granitic rocks are commonly used as a means to study chemical evolution of continental crust. In particular, their isotopic compositions reflect the relative contributions of mantle and crustal sources in their genesis. In Laurentia, a distinctive belt of Mesoproterozoic A-type or “anorogenic” granites of ∼1.4 Ga age was emplaced within composite, heterogeneous Proterozoic crust. Zircons are an...
